Internet friend day

I was spamming for followers on twitter and took a peek at the hashtags and noticed it's "internet friend day" today:cheerlead.
(OMG OMG OMG)
But so far I haven't got a single gift... motherfuckers, never gonna set my foot on bhw again....

When the hell did this phenomenon start and is it really a thing?
Anyone noticed more followers or something due to this day?
Anyway, i'm gonna exploit the shit out of it.
