Internet fallout from the crashing market?

The stock market continues to crash, down almost 500 points today, below 10K for the first time in four years. I'm taking a bath, but not as bad as some, since I sold all my stocks in January and have been getting back in very, very gradually.

However, I'm concerned about the health of some of the Internet companies I depend on. It doesn't take many failures for the Internet that we depend on to start going dark. What if for example your domain registrar were to go under, or the company hosting your DNS, or your colo facility?

There are a lot of points of failure that in normal times could be easily replaced to keep your web presence up. But it's time to start thinking about how that might work. And who you can trust.

I assume we can trust Google and Microsoft to stay on the air? eBay? Amazon? What about TechCrunch? Scripting News?

I'm not just starting to think about this, but I haven't wanted to say anything unless I was fairly sure that it was going to become a prolonged thing. It's looking more like that every day. I guess the future is starting and it's got different rules from the recent past.

It's a good point. There are also positives though. Most of the idiots won't be able to play ppc slapsies with each other, hopefully, thus driving PPC clicks down in cost. Give it a year and you'll be able to pay 0.02 for 1-3 on - broadmatch - Money.

By the way, i'm a delusional fantasist.

Everything is fine, it's all a big show, none of the companies you use are going out of business.

It amazes me that they still manage to orchestrate these mega meltdowns right before a huge presidential election and no one seems to notice the shocking coincidence of it.

This was just as carefully planned out as the trade centers coming down in 01, put the public in mass hysteria so they agree to what you want, then bring back the piece of mind slowly until it's healed, then just when everyone is enjoying dealing with only the stress in their small lives and not world chaos, BAM, hit them again and force them to give up more.

sort of like that bombing attack that started just as clinton was being impeached.

Its amazing that this was all over the news last week, the sky is falling, now nothing has changed and its like last years news already..

There really aren't any conspiracy's, just a mystery on what they are going to do to screw with us next.
Who are they? Well Bill Gates or Buffet or ... aren't the richest people in the world.
