Internal links are a powerful ranking factor. Not quite as powerful as backlinks, but very much worth your effort. Same as backlinks, internal links can pass link juice and tell Google which pages are more important. As an added benefit, internal links contribute to better user experience, a higher conversion rate, and a more efficient website crawling. When implemented correctly, internal linking is a legitimate way to improve your rankings and the performance of your website in general.

I was going to report just after seeing the title
Thanks for sharing dude

Most definitely.

That's where silos come into play.

What is also very important is page depth. Search engines seem to like when you spare they crawl budget.

I recently moved all child page interlinks of a parent page one level up (putting them straight on the homepage). Website now ranks for +1k new long-tails hands free

I put the link in title in hurry. Apologies for that.

Actual title is "Internal Links for SEO: Best Practices 2020"

Maybe @Zwielicht you can change title now.

@tiiberius

Interesting find out.

We often suggest this to clients who are looking to order 5, 10 or 15 link bundles that they should point some at their homepage and if the site structure os good it will also pass down some link juice, then use the other links direct to inner pages.

I knew inter links played a key role, but I thought for rankings targeting inner pages was good idea, this is a nice technique send some links on homepage too

Do you use category name in the url?

Yes, having proper internal link structure will helps to pass link power to inner pages, so if existing page has good backlinks and traffic, by interlinking it will help to boost lower ranking pages. Also helps user to find more useful info and increase stay time.

is it good or bad to link with multiple keywords to one subpage?
for sure only relevant and similar anchor texts
for example.
bow and arrow for kids --> subpage1
bow and arrow for kids under 10 --> subpage1
bow for children with arrows --> subpage1
