What would be a good internal linking strategy for a long term money site.

Method one:

domain.com/child-page/
domain.com/blog-post/

or the second method see as

domain.com/parent-page/child-page/
domain.com/parent-page/child-page-2/
domain.com/another-page/blog-post/
domain.com/another-page/blog-post2/

Currently I am using method one but I see an awful lot of competitors using second method?

I think for the most part, you want to link your most linked-to content to inner pages of your website so that your PR flows evenly throughout the site. Your strategy should also reflect your goals. For example maybe there are pages that you want more PR for but that you have a hard time building links to for whatever reason.

I use method two to get more keywords out there. Believe me it helps. for example if you have this:

Icecreamshop.com/best-waffle-cone.html <-- Method 1
Icecreamshop.com/Diffrent-waffle-cones-from-around-the-world/Belgium-waffle-cones/best-waffle-cone.html <--method 2

Obviously method two is better...........
 
OP, just a quick note. Those are not pages they are categories. And I believe that mydomain.com/blabla-my-post is best IMHO.

Would this not devalue the link juice flowing from home page?
 
I try to stick to the shortest URL possible that contains my keywords. Also keep user experience in mind: a super long URL could turn people off. A short URL is very clear and tells the person what they're going to get, increasing CTR and therefore traffic.
 
Well all my pages rank page one on google. Do what you want. I am all about rankings and results.... the shortest url possiable is not the best. But whatever I hope you dont rank. You will just be competition for me.
 
I always links using option 1 (Don't know about others, but I would recommend option 1).

How can I be a competition for you? I am not even an IM!
 
It really depends on the CMS you're using. Back in the day when people used html sites the only option they had was #2.

If you take a look at the example you provided from a silo perspective, you will also be able to rank your category pages for more broad keywords in your niche, while anything that goes after the www.site/category/- will be used to rank for long and semi-tail keywords.

FIRST & Most important Tip : If there are many options then there must be different situations. And every situation will need its best option.

Now to your Question. It depends on your site

If you are going after Authority Niche website with more than 100 posts, then using option two would be best. Because you want to Silo you website... And you if you are into Authority sites, YOU NEED TO LEARN SILOING or you are leaving A LOT of money on the table

If you are building Small Sites or Focusing on Thin Keywords ( that needs less than 100 Articles to cover ) then you can go with option one as you won't have many categories to cover anyway.

Deep Linking will cause a lot of problems to crawlers. If I were you, I would use Shallow links instead. You shouldn't go more than 3 links deep ( HomePage.com/Parent-Page/Child-Page ) and if you really need to go this deep then Virtual Silo would be your best option. Which goes like

HomePage.com/Parent-page1/Parent-Page2
HomePage.com/Parent-page2/Child-Page

Unless you are Building something like Amazon and still shallow linking will be a better choice

I am looking for somebody to help me with the SILO structure and I will of course pay for you time.
 
Internal/Deep linking is my biggest headache at the moment. The main page has got a decent amount of backlinks but I need to focus on inner pages as well
as the structure doesn't look that natural.

The problem is that deep linking takes time when you want to do it white hat. Do you have any suggestions how to go about it? Maybe three deep links from
the same blogpost?
 
I use both methods. Haven't really seen one advantage over the other as of yet.
 
Internal linking is one of the most important in my way of SEO, I use method one, though both ways are good, i dont think internal linking is about the url structure. it is more about how you place your internal links in relevant and smart way, that helps visitors with navigate your information website well.
 
Most people go with the second method buddy, because when the internal page got good indexing from Google.
This will make the parent page indexed automatically. As everybody me to go with second method...
