Internal Linking Questions

I've been building my link building knowledge as it's completely new for me. With my internal linking, I'm wondering how anchor text should be used.

I've often just done, "you can read more about xxx in my previous article 'Article Title'" and hyperlink the article title.

Is there a better way of internally linking? If I link the same article in multiple posts, should the anchor text vary? Should it just be more natural in the text and hyperlink the relevant text?

For internal linking stick to exact matches. Like 8-9 times out of 10. Once or twice can throw in some phrases/long tails or article titles.

Use links that are natural for the reader.
Use relevant links.
Use anchor text for linking deep.

Even if exact match is a 4-5+ word title? Or exact match for the targeted keyword? E.g. instead of "how to internal link in your blog post" the anchor text would be internal link?

Yes, by exact matches I mean keywords. 80-90% of exacts and 10-20% of long tails or some phrases. I usually choose phrases that are on the 2nd/3rd page of Google for that page, can provide a quick boost of relevance and some juice.

Example: domain.com/best- cat -foods

like "best cat foods" 5 times
foods for cat(LSI)
cat foods brands(LSI
cat food online(LSI)
check these best one(exact + generic)
view our top food(LSI + generic)

extra tip : add css to highlight internal links only for the user to click and browse the website.

You should never use generic anchors for internal links. It's just a waste. Same as just 50% for exacts.

Save yourself a ton of time and use whisper plugin. It automatically gives you a list of suggested links per page

You can put an Internal link as you said Also read - previous article title + URL, But the link must be a target on relevant topics and place naturally in the content.

For a better results, i suggest you to go with exact match.
