Internal Linking; Quality Quantity ?

I used to follow a fixed internal linking pattern, but over time I found it wasn't always helpful. Now I only add links where they naturally fit the content and give readers a clear next step. It also keeps the site structure cleaner, and search engines seem to understand the topic relationships better.

I have a general plan, but I will add links that will benefit the reader. Topic clustering is good, but adding links solely for the purpose of SEO does not really do much for the reader.

i usually add internal links only when they really help the reader, not just to fill spots.

Instead of having a fixed number of links in my pages, I simply follow a basic layout where, if there is an internal link that answers the next question a person has after reading the current page, I include it..
structure is crucial, but there is not much point in making connection simply in order to make a connection so as to meet a certain number quota. the internal link that are useful are the one that take reader to the next relevant bit of information.

When I do internal linking for myself or a client I will add 1 link for SEO to a page that is relevant and 2 links to other pages with helpful/relevant info. I try to do min 3 links on a page.
