Internal Linking: Do you use plugins or do it manually for better SEO?

Hi guys,

I’m currently working on my site's structure and I know how important internal linking is for SEO. I’ve seen some plugins that automate this, but I’m worried they might look "unnatural" to Google.

Do you guys still prefer to place your internal links manually to ensure the best user experience, or are there any AI-based tools you trust in 2026? I’d love to hear your workflow on this!

Do it manually, you will have better control. Also read about silo structures, it will help you in long run.
 
Manual internal linking usually works best you control context and relevance, though plugins can help suggest links without replacing human judgment.
 
manual is a waste of time if u have more than 50 pages lol . but yall are right about basic plugins , they usually just spam exact match anchors and trigger a massive footprint .
if u want real scale without the unnaturalook , u need an llm-driven semantic approach .
convert ur page summaries/titles into vectors .
calculate the cosine similarity between pages to find the most relevant neighbors .
nstead of a bottom related posts widget , use an llm agent to find the perfect spot in the actual copy to drop the link with a natural , varying anchor .
basic silos are the foundation , but semantic interlinking is what actually passes the juice without making ur site look like a generic pbn from 2018 . manual is for hobbyists , pipelines are for engineers
 
I use plugins for discovery and suggestions, then place links manually automation finds gaps, humans decide relevance, which keeps it natural.
 
If you run a fairly large blog that doesn't allow you the bandwidth to do it manually, use a plugin. Link whisper does the job flawlessly.
 
Manually will be the best, otherwise you'll end up with a lot of manualk work anyways as the post will have many linkings if you have a lot of content, and not all of them will be relevant for your targeted post
 
I never recommend plugins for internal linking. Use a plugin only if you have many pages, as it takes a long time.
 
Manual 100%! You can use tools/AI to a certain point to help with the process, but at the end of the day, this is a task I won´t trust ANY tool. Internal Linking is perhaps one of the most underrated yet most powerful SEO tasks you can leverage right now. I don´t know why people have NEVER given the credit it deserves.

Manual for money pages, tools for bulk support content

Automated links are fine if controlled , fully auto everywhere usually creates junk paths
 
Internal linking should be done manually. You need to make everything look natural as much as possible.
 
I prefer a mix manual linking ensures relevance and context, while lightweight plugins help spot opportunities and save time on large sites.
 
For internal linking, I create a content web by mapping topics and naturally connecting them, letting links flow logically instead of relying solely on plugins.
 
I still prefer a hybrid approach: core pages and important links are placed manually for UX and intent, then AI tools help suggest contextual links at scale. In 2026, AI is fine as an assistant, but full automation without human review can still feel unnatural to Google.
 
Manual internal linking still wins for me when it’s money pages + important clusters, because you can control anchor intent and avoid over-optimizing. But for large sites, plugins save a ton of time for finding opportunities you’d miss. Best approach I’ve found is: use a plugin for suggestions, then manually approve/edit the anchors + add links inside the most relevant paragraphs. Do you link mostly to category hubs or directly between related posts?

I still prefer doing most of it manually. Automated tools can help with suggestions but I don’t fully trust them to place links in a way that makes sense for users.

Plugins are ok for scale but they miss intent

I only automate old posts not money pages
