Anyone recommend a good way to setup internal linking?

I have the option of two things..

    1) Show Previous/Next article as links when 'browsing'
    2) Show Next article link (not showing previous)

The second option is basically like an open link wheel, where as the first option is more closed off.... I have it setup now as #1, but I'm thinking maybe the second option would be better

Am I reading it correctly or are you saying the second one is the same as the first just without the "previous link". I'd always have more links if I had the choice...

Are you doing it manually or script?
What about just doing like "Other related pages" and list 3-5 other links?
Kinda like WiseGeek. Damn them and their high rankings.

If you are viewing the first article then there should be no need of the "viewing link" to show as there will not be any. And when you are viewing the last article then the "next" link should not show as there will not be any as well. The first option is better if you keep the above mentioned points in mind.
