Interesting Study on Penguin Hit Sites

I have been gradually adding more links and diversifying the anchors, as yet nothing has changed .

As it seems that only three pages are penalised I am considering building three more pages to replace them, one of these is the home page so I will just create a /Home1 and build it out with different content and 301 the old page.

How do you know this is penguin? It sounds more like Panda or possibly another penalty.

That's because if you were if fact hit by Penguin, you must wait until the next iteration of Penguin to see if your strategy is doing anything positive. This is true of all algorithmic 'penalties.' (A caveat: Penguinized sites/pages will start exhibiting odd 'spiking' behaviour in SERPs when you're on the right track because of the larger elements of the algorithm liking what you're doing and therefore trying to bypass the penalty).

You will simply be 301-ing the penalty.

No offense, mate, but unless you're just doing this thing for shits and giggles, you're really better of just scrapping the site. Reason being, that by the time you get what follows necessarily from the fundamentals of an algo-induced penalty understood, you'll have wasted enough time to have started, ranked, and banked from several new sites.

Good for you - it would be very easy, and understandable, when hit by the Penguin to just moan and complain about it. Fair play on carrying out a bit of an investigation into exactly what happened and how to set it right. And all the more so on sharing here so that others can avoid being slapped themselves. There's always plenty of use for information like that.

I'm still getting great results with my campaigns, for me the key has been paying for original content and only posting on high PR sites.

Anyone else?
