INTERESTING QUESTION about CONVERSION RATES.

    Hi BHW!

    I have an interesting scenario which I am pondering over. If I had a directory site which was receiving, let's say 90,000 unique visitors per month and I placed an ad on this site linking to a store which sold products relative to the theme of the directory. ...now let's say 2%[1800 unique visitors] of the visitors to the directory site actually clicked on this ad... what percentage of that 2% would be converted into a sale? By the way, these visitors seem to be niche visitors and my bounce rate is around 55% [I believe that this could be lower, but the nature of this directory may be the reason why the bounce is at 55%]

    ...I honestly to know how this would work... would it be 2% of the 2%?

    Yeah, but I think you are being overly optimistic at 2%...

    You should be thinking 1%-.5% will click on the add, then 1%-.5% of those people will convert...

    Yeah, I totally agree. This is far more realistic in the case of click-thru ads.

    If it was a direct sales site for a direct sale of a product/service of your own, it would be different. PPC/PTC rules apply here and end sales are a lot more likely to bounce from a typical click-thru funnel vs. a higher converting sales page funnel, with a content sequence attached to it.

    manny521 is about right and in fact I can tell you sadly from "expensive" experience that it can sometime be even lower than .5%!! seriously...

    Yes, I agree...in the best possible case think 1%...this can go all the way down to .25%...

    If you are anywhere over 1%, this is really really really good!!!

    I think a better calculation would be 90,000 x .005 = 450

    Then 450 x .005 = 2.25 conversions

    This is the reality you are looking at.

    With a 1% conversion rate, you are looking at 4.5 conversions

    Call me crazy but my suggest is to forget all of the numbers, theories, etc. When you think about averages and numbers you automatically limit yourself and put yourself in a box.

    Screw that dude! Let's get crazy on some a/b/c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j/k/l/m/n/o/p/q/r/s/t/u/v/w/x/y/z split testing! Keep refining and polishing that landing page and you will surprise yourself in your conversion rate!

    Then try different banners!

    By the way, I forgot to mention... this ad will be branded just like the directory so that the traffic will know that this is not just some RANDOM click through ad... it will be actually linked to a store which is located ON THE WEBSITE.
