Let's imagine that my website duplicates content from another website. If the source website decides to remove their content (which will eventually be de-indexed from Google as well) and I decide to leave it as it is, how will the content be handled by search engines? Will Google see my as the "source" from then on?

    Thanks!

There is no original source for Google, if the same content is found on several sites, Google ranks the site best they see as trustworthy and authorative. So, if you copy content from another site and this site goes offline, it's certainly an advantage for you in terms of ranking...but, if e.g. a much stronger site than yours copies this content, too, your rankings are gone quickly. This chain could be continued indefinately, bigger fish fish eats smaller fish.

in some cases Google define the page date, and then it can define that you are the original article writer, and in all cases if the another website remove these pages, then you will get ranked for these articles instead by some backlinks & social signals

Back in 2008 I made a ton of money from this. 100% accidentally - seriously.

There was a source of free content. I copied it with good intentions, for my audience and i cited the source. 100% legit, creative commons license.

Then the original site went down and I became the sole source of that info. My ad revenue shot through the roof. A Google update killed the whole thing a while later on that content farm update.
