** Interesting #1 ranking result **

This is what I did;
  • I ranked a brand new (never before registered) domain for a very easy 4-word keyword, and sat it at #1 for about a month.
  • I then redirected it to a site in a completely different and totally unrelated niche that had been hanging around #9 for about 4 months (KW with many thousands of searches and highly profitable).
  • The target site jumped to #1 in 3 days.

Now, note that that 301 site only had two single-page 2.0's linking to it, each with about 300 words - that's it.

I have no other way of explaining the sudden #1 jump, except that the 301 had more 'authority' because it had come from a #1 ranking spot already - even though it was a totally unrelated keyword (like, really unrelated; eg one about cars and the other about toothbrushes).

Maybe a new method, then, is to rank for a super-easy keyword, let it mature there for 30-60 days, then 301 to any money site...

I'm now trying to repeat this result a couple more times, to have proof of concept, rather than just a suspicion.

Let us know how it goes, I have though about doing this a few times, have some sites. I may give this a try as well.
 
thats the thing with 301's you never know for sure
sometimes your site jumps up and others nothing happens i guess
 
keep us updated of the site rankings after few days.
maybe this new method works
 
Nice trying there and hope you can replicate the same success.

How's the quality for your brand new site that you are going to 301? I suppose you build them with quality content with 10 or more pages?

So, shall we assume 301 not only passes link juice but also rank. :D **joke**
 
this is really an interesting finding! I guess the 301 itself (regardless of niche) is a strong citation in G's point of view.
how about the ranking of the 4-word keyword now? Is your 301 domain still ranking with the old or new meta?

No, it disappears from the serps once you do a 301 (generally around the same time the target sites jumps up). But that's fine - it was just a junk ranking anyway, no profit to be had there. The new site with a ranking, however, is certainly a very profitable niche - though, again, totally unrelated to the first.
 
I'd be curious to see what that new domain you 301'ed used to be. I'd bet it was something worthwhile at some point in the past... if not then I'd assume it had previous backlinks from an old owner.

That was my initial thought too, but even on second inspection I can't see *anything* pointing at it, except my 2x 2.0's. I've checked both ahrefs and majestic. So unless someone has kindly given me hidden PBN links, it has nothing going on.

Another possibility, however remote, is that the money site would have jumped up anyway, and the timing is nothing more than coincidence.

For both of the above reasons, and indeed to try to give some more meat to the theory, I'm testing it again, as described.
 
i usually try to rank for super easy keywords then easy then hard.


i think it may be because that website was ranking on #1 so it may have got google "trust" and that trust was passed to your site.

In the interest of clarity, it's not quite a method just yet :) Just an early indicator of something that might work... and I'll keep testing!
 
I think it just passed the link juice and that was enough to push another domain to #1
 
This is very interesting, as you mentioned keep us updated after you got the results from the second experiment.

Your theory open a new door for me on an outgoing experiment.. once I will have more details on mine with your theory implemented I will let you know.
