Instagram's new policy on viewing likes

I don't see this being discussed any in the press or even here yet so hopefully it's a question others will have too: it's being reported widely that Instagram is rolling out this new policy where neither accounts viewers or account holders will be able to see likes on posts. That seems to me like a really drastic way to cut down on internet addiction, huh?

Does anyone know if there's a way under this new policy to see one's own likes and if this will affect Instagram business accounts as well?

I feel a little stupid asking what seems to be an obvious question but which I can't find an answer for in news articles or even Instagram press releases on this.

I feel a little less stupid though knowing this is something others here will I have questions about as well.

Thats true for several countries but not the US. Also its only for public accounts. Business accounts will still report as normal

From my understanding the account holder will still be able to see the likes on their own posts, but content curators that repost viral content will have a b*tch of a time.

Thanks I did notice some articles about this from Australia but I didn't notice anything to indicate it was only that country or a few countries that are affected.

It would make sense to leave out business accounts but I have read that Instagram creators in particular are going to be affected. I think most of them would likely use a business account to keep track of metrics and buy Instagram promotion if they wanted it. If just business accounts are going to be affected I'm not sure why professional influencers would care about this.

I can sort of see Instagram choosing to do something like this suppress like count on minors accounts but not on personal accounts in general.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that account holders who repost content may have their likes turned off on that post? To do that Instagram is going to have to recognize if a photo has been reposted and then choose to display likes or not.

Thanks for these replies! I appreciate any insight that anyone can give on this. If anyone has links to particularly good articles explaining what's happening I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it if you could post them.

Unless you're talking about a further update you can still get an estimate of the amount of likes by tapping to bring up the list of likers. You just don't see the number out right on posts anymore.
