So recently Instagram had some downtime when the downtime supposedly ended I refreshed the page I was on and this came up.

What is this? My guess, Instagram's AI trying to guess what the picture is all about, I had no idea that this was a thing and truly bring a whole new perspective to Instagram's powers.

They have already been doing this for a while. I saw it already months ago when scraping posts from accounts, they all have those attributes
 
Saw this 6 months ago on GMT2 embedded browser with slow proxies, it's not new.
 
If this is alt text instagram has awful SEO. Imagine having billions of images with Alt text "1 person" "2 people outdoor" .
 
This always showed up when my internet was too slow to load the pictures a few months ago

Hopefully AI will suicide and leave us alone
 
This has been there for a while. Its just their Image recognition recognizing whats in the image and placing it as alt text.
 
Well the platform is down or glitchy right now for several people, so that is probably the problem.

As one person mentioned it looks like alt text, so don't freak out about it too much :)
 
Saw this for the first time as well today...quite creepy. No wonder they say FB/IG knows you better than your best friend. Behaviours are easy to study with an algo like this
 
How is that creepy? It's an image recognition software. It's useful for impaired so the text from the image can be read out loud and they know what is the picture about.
 
Take off the tinfoil hats folks, Just a simple photo recognition feature for alt text

Been around for a while.
