Hello, so I have something in my mind. I am planning to monetize my instagram by designing t-shirts and then selling them. But my question is, will people actually buy them?

I will not be monetizing now, I just started a few days ago. I'll probably start monetizing a few months after I make this post, but I have a food niche IG. I post pictures of yummy foods(from tumblr) and the engagement is pretty good. But because all the pictures in my account is pictures of foods, if I put a picture of a t-shirt design, will they be interested to buy it?

Thanks(Please Answer)!

Would I buy t-shirts with food on? No.

That doesn't mean others will not but I wouldn't wait months to find out.

Try it out earlier :)

To be honest, you will never know if your market/followers would buy unless you try. Don't try to assume things without trying. Those are the big mistake marketers do. Happens even in the corporate world.

if its related to fodd it will be fine, design something that you would wear personally if you were one of your followers (gender, age etc)
if its gonna be just "yummy" food then probably no - if you make it funny then more likely yes
but nobody can predict future so try and see what happens

Check out the helpful pages on tee-spring regarding tailoring your tshirt designs to your niche.

university.teespring. com/audience/narrowing/

But don't just steal pictures off tumblr and stick them on a tshirt as the owners of the pictures will sue your ass.

Also pictures off tumblr are usually too low quality in resoluation to get a decent print off...

Great idea! you can start it because as far I know social media site is always better for newbie to starting new business because here different traffics are available. You will start with T shirt !! It's okay. Please so more job and earn more money. By the way- What is your money making target per month?

See instead of that,i would suggest go with Facebook ads which will be more useful IMO.

I'd say it has potential to work, but you never know until you do a test run.

What I'd do if I were you is something like this:

First I'd read through a lot of stuff here: http://university.teespring.com

You need to learn more about the stuff before diving in there, and they also answer all the questions you need answers to, such as image resolution, images you can actually print on clothing etc. They're a good starting place since you don't need any capital to start, just design and see if people buy it.

Then I'd start with Instagram, Pinterest and maybe even Facebook (but no need for ads yet, see if you can earn and then re-invest first). Pinterest has been shouted all over the web as a place with women and credit cards, so you should do fine there as well as on Instagram, IF your idea is to work.

From there on you need to "only" design the shirts, promote them and hopefully you make some sales. From there you can go and reinvest in your business, or just take the money and spend it all over town on hookers and cocaine, that's up to you.

Nobody is going to buy a shirt with food pics on it.

Just think about it, have you ever seen someone wearing food shirts? In my 20 years of living, i've never seen someone.
Design is EVERYTHING to selling shirts. You might have 10 bad designs but once you hit a good one, it will make you 10x more than what you lost.
Try a different niche.

The fact some people ↑↑ have never seen a food tshirt shows it could be filling a gap in the market. But its gotta be creative.

Maybe also look to fiverr to get someone to help getting designs made...

Generally you'd want your method of monetization to correlate with your niche. For a food blog you're probably looking at shout outs and cost per action

I could also see you putting recipe ebooks on your website w/ email opt-in

Then marketing Amazon cooking equipment to your list (Amazon affiliate links). Stuff like that

Package it to look as canned food or similar

I've seen people wearing food related T-Shirts.
Most of the times to make a statement.

When the WHO released their bacon-increases-cancer-risk-study, I saw some people with a bacon t-shirt. :D

Just try it, if it doesn't work, change it.

I'm not going to sell a shirt with food pics on it, obviously. I'm planning to make a t-shirt with funny quotes or designs that relates to food. For example "WTF Where's the food" or maybe put a picture of a pizza and say "Actually, I'm in a very commited relationship" or something like that, you get the idea.

You have a good idea with quotes there but dont just choose 1 stream of income, what if it fails, try to start your own blogs with different types of recipies share a picture of the food and then write a caption "want a recipie check my bio" and drive traffic that way with a big enough following you could easily be earning $$ to $$$ each day if done right plus do the shirts too so you have many sources of income! But a word of advice, when you grow a little bigger try to make your own pictures, when you have enuogh money why not visit different restaurants read up on how to do food photography do shoutouts for local restaurants and you could rake in really alot of money!

it's not a bad Idea actually. I no one can tell you if this will work or not. You have to try. Try to make something interesting like animated food characters or something like that. Test different styles...you will eventually find; what works!

Great idea.. I think you should try it :) If you never try you will never know ;)
