Heard about this.

Is it on new posted videos in 2016 or any video on IG?

It's part of the last update. That and the option to manage multiple accounts from inside of the official app. It can be found at the bottom of the settings menu. "Add Account".

Weird, I've posted a few videos prior....in fact I have one account that is nothing but videos and today is the first time I've gotten a view counter. Pretty cool idea, though I don't like that I can't see my likes as well unless I tap on the views count.

So the old videos just remain a like number even if you tap them?

I have the newest version of IG on IOS and when I checked some new videos posted today they didn't have a views number, just likes.

Is the views only visible to the poster of the video maybe?

Bit like twitters new stats...

Lol just updated IG on iOs, kinda regretting it, that view counter is fugly. I'm pretty sure its only visible for the video poster
View counter is visible to only the poster, it's active on all videos you have posted, available on newer updates.

dont update if you dont want it

Pretty cool update but in my opinion the counter is not necessary

I read about this today so to get a view someone has to watch the clip for 3 seconds...
I think alot of like spammers will get banned in the near future

It would be much better if Instagram does this for pictures too but it would be kinda difficult to control.

Views will count from videos uploaded nov 2015 and upwards. Only instagram to instagram views will count, embeds etc.. won't work. They wanna see engagement rate via seconds spent to watch like buzzfeed is doing now to measure their content effectiveness.
