About two months ago my Instagram account was disabled due to fraudulent copyright reports sent by an individual looking to take the page down. I appealed several times and eventually got a response from Instagram notifying me my account would be restored within 14 days unless the individual could prove their copyright infringement claim and send a court order… neither of which they did. So as promised, my account was restored last week. However, I cannot log in. I get the error message “sorry there was a problem.” The account is active because I can see it. However I can’t log into the app on my phone or anyone else’s. As many of you know, ig customer service sucks so of course I’ve been getting the run around there. Anyone experienced this before or have a way to help get this working normally? Any service would help with this?

How is that possible. I thought when submitting those complaints they had to submit the proof with the claim.

Nope. Unfortunately Instagram doesn’t really require any proof. Which is unfortunate because things like this happen.

Have you looked at their help center:

From Instagram

The fastest and easiest way to submit a claim of copyright infringement to us is to use our online form. Whether you submit your report through our online form or another method, Instagram needs the following information to be able to process your report:

  • Your complete contact information (full name, mailing address and phone number)*
  • A description of the content on our site that you claim infringes your copyright
  • Information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material on our site. The easiest way to do this is by providing web addresses (URLs) leading directly to the allegedly infringing content. Learn how to find a URL.
  • A declaration that:
    • You have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted content described above, in the manner you have complained of, is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
    • The information in your notice is accurate
    • Under penalty of perjury, you are the owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive copyright that is allegedly infringed
  • Your electronic signature or physical signature
*Please note that we regularly provide your name, contact information and the contents of your report to the person who posted the content you are reporting. If you are an authorized representative submitting a report, we provide the name of the organization or client that owns the right in question. You may wish to provide a professional or business email address for this reason

So whoever is submitting fake ones is signing under penalty or perjury they own it.

Crazy, right? That’s why Instagram gave them the 14 days to provide a court order before they decided in my favor. No court order was filed because I didn’t actually infringe anything and the person knew that. I had to provide my home address and everything for them to serve me. They didn’t

Yeah, the help center just either directs me to reset my password (which I’ve done several times and it still gives the error) or either they don’t respond at all.

That is absolutely messed up!!! I’m sorry for your troubles.

How did they communicate with you? Through email? Is it from a long email address like a support ticket in a queue?

If so just reply again and give them more time to respond to this week. I think last week with Fourth of July holiday Facebook support employees might not have been working all week. Plus they are usually very slow anyways haha!

This is a local phone device ban. You should be able to use the account via browser so try logging in via that and then re-linking your account to Facebook. Thereafter, you should be able to log into Instagram via the Facebook account. I was able to get around this issue about two years ago by following this method.

Eventually, this went away in about 4 weeks...

I can fix your issue.

Go to log in screen then click 'get help signing in'
choose the SMS option.
Click the link they send you on SMS
then change your password and you should log straight in.

Yeah, the emails I have gotten are from like a support ticket. I’ve even went back and tried responding to their original emails letting me know the account was restored since the 25th, nothing. It’s awful

I was able to log in via browser for about two days. Then at some point it refreshed and that doesn’t work anymore either. Gives the same error

I’ve tried that a few times. It lets me change the password and all.. then gives the error.

This is what it looks like when I sign in the browser both phone and desktop
