Yes, Reels are definitely a good idea. Because Instagram (FB) is trying to compete with TikTok, they push Reels a lot. This means that you'll get a lot more reach than with standard videos and that you might hit the explore page more regularly.
I noticed on my own account that Reels average +40% more views than traditional videos + it helps to gain followers.

Instagram will always push any Feature it Newly Introduces so yes it will definately help your Account.
But note that the Reels should go viral to gain you Followers,Post something Trending which will make the work easy for you.

It's not very consistent tho, I've seen some users with very good reach from Reels for some posts, but very low with next posts ; looks a bit random. Makes me think about TikTok algo

Reels was good idea. Nowadays randomly the views of videos are increasing and this may increase your followers also.

I'm using regrann, you can either save the posts on your phone or directly repost. But for the reel part you have to save it and then repost it as a reel

Reels when launched were given tremendous importance and visibility, it has been on a decline though but still way better than posts if your content is catchy.
So yeah, keep posting consistently as you would need quite a lot of them to get followers as a few thousand views won't help much!
