I'm not stranger to how IG works. I've grown many such accounts. IG reach is not consistent and sways up and down every two weeks. But it's abnormal to go from 10s of thousands to few hundred reach, which seemingly happened overnight.

I'm failing to figure out what went wrong.

IG reach can drop hard overnight even if nothing changed on your side. I’d check if it’s only Reels or also Stories/Posts, and compare “non-followers reached” vs “followers reached”. If non-follower reach got hit, it’s usually content distribution. Sometimes taking 2–3 days to post slightly safer/less aggressive content + engaging more manually helps reset it.

I can say that it can be as a result of algorithm issue

I think this might be caused by an issue with the algorithm.

Check account status, if everything is Green then try taking link out of bio if you have one.

If reach comes back after removing the link then you most likely need to cloak the link better

That drop is usually a trust signal issue, not content quality.
Check for:
Sudden behavior changes
Reused content
Too many actions in short time
Stabilize activity for a few days and reach often returns.
In ads, the same principle applies: clean, stable infrastructure is what really scales.

I've also experienced those sudden reach drops, and it's always a challenge to identify the cause. VAT, I appreciate your insight on trust signal issues, and I'd like to add that monitoring engagement metrics, such as likes and comments, can also provide clues about what's going on. Georgetoons, your suggestion to check the account status and remove links from the bio is a good one - have you found that cloaking links makes a significant difference in reach? Additionally, I'm curious to know if anyone has noticed any correlations between reach drops and specific types of content or hashtags.

One of your posts might have gotten flagged. What you can do is, go to the settings and check under "account status". It should let you know from there if you violated anything. From there, just remove that post and you should be good to go.
