Does anyone have any information or tips for finding optimal hashtags, not just "5 minute" tags but really thought out ones? I looked through the forum and havent really found extensive Information on this topic. Thanks BHW!

You can always download android or ios app which can give you hashtags categorized by niche or popularity.

Thank you for your response weirdo23, would you happen to know if these apps adequately give top "Instagram SEO" hashtags? I would imagine that they would be generic but I could be wrong.

im not sure if they have SEO hashtags but they sort it pretty nice by popularity or usage or niche...:)
 
You can use Hashtagify and Tagboard to do the keyword research. But it's recommended to manually check all the keywords and see the competition - you need to use hashtags that are less competitive but have huge traffic:
- the more publications, the more traffic there is
- the less likes and comments pictures in top get, the easier it will be for you to get in top
