My instagram account has been growing steadily for a few years now and I am at around 16K users. The account has always been highly engaging with us regularly getting at least 300 likes on each of our photos. But recently not sure if IG has changed their algo but our engagement has dropped to below 50! Has someone else noticed this too?

Probably you got shadow banned, check if your post appears in the hashtags, just after posting a pic.

hey @esminisoft thanks for the reply. I tested several posts from our account and our account generally as well using this tool http://shadowban.azurewebsites.net/ but everytime it came back saying it's not shadow banned...what else do you think could be the reason for such a huge drop in engagement?

I think it could be geolocation shadow banned. Meaning shaddow banned for certain country/area. Seen that happen before. This can be caused by using the same hashtags over and over again in the same order.

I think this is what happened to me... Do you know how long or a method to get unbanned? Thanks!

Start using other hashtags and stay away from the ones you previously used

Guys, it's not shadowbanned. It's IG that has been banning bots. There are other posts that discuss this. Everyone is losing followers, and engagement. Also, MP users are now losing access to the software since their licenses are running out.
So, no bots to like your posts = less engagement.

@colorme are you saying that IG has been cutting down on bot accounts that used to like our posts? That was once true for Facebook, i think it was 2 years ago where they did a very aggressive cleanup of fake accounts after which engagements for all accounts fell by a lot. but do you have any reference or official source to back your claim up?

No source other than other users here on BHW complaining about the same thing. I handle many accounts and they all lost followers over the past week. Engagement has also dropped.
Different niches, and types of accounts, so it's a reality.

If you didn't know about Red September 2016, then read up on it. IG hit every account hard banning millions of bots and/or fake accounts. Those buying fake followers lost up to 50% of their following in just one weekend.

I think the same thing is starting to happen again. IG is slowly banning bots and fake accounts. On top of that, those that were using MP on a monthly license, are now coming to an end. So, these can no longer get on MP to like, follow, etc. So, even less engagement on everyone's posts.

I never recovered from being shadow banned. I had to start all over again. I hope yours isnt the same, but i havent come accross any method of recovering from a shadow ban. Good luck though, i know it sucks.

300 likes on 16K is not highly engaging. That's pretty miserable. I get double that or more per post on an account with less than 5K followers.

@swon that's not very encouraging :O did you try posting without any hashtags as most people here are recommending?

share your account so that all of us can see! because otherwise I don't see your post as very contributing to the discussion.
Btw, I also never said that was highly engaging as I hardly posted much a few months ago.

I'm sorry you don't find my answer encouraging - but that's the reality of what happened :D
I think the primary objective of using hashtags is so other non-followers can see your post, engage with your post and become a follower. Yes you can post without hashtags and hope your followers will tag their friends in the comments and you get more followers that way, but I think that's way too slow, and I don't enjoy being at the mercy of my followers. That's the reason I started over.

P.s. I did mention good luck for encouragement tho.
