Instagram Earners

On every forum I'm a member of there are a few members that are making large amounts (>$20,000) with Instagram.
I'm not very active when it comes to social media (neither business wise nor personal), but I do know that it isn't possible to post links in Instagram descriptions.
I do however know that it is possible to add links in the "About" section and that some owners get paid through promoted posts (selling on eBay, forums, etc).

So my question is, how do these big earners make an income off Instagram?
For the record: I'm not asking to get into the business, I'm just extremely curios as I've seen it around so many times.

Of course it's possible (as stated in my post).
But where does the money come from?

The real secret is how to get the traffic, but I believe the monetization should be pretty public.
What is one method of monetization on your pages?

If you a large amount of followers 500K-1M you can sell shout outs + all the brand deals. It is possible but you have to be really active and have a large audience. To get traffic follow all the popular accounts related to your niche & follow users that follow them. You have to be good at managing them though because you'll have to unfollow the ones that don't follow back and making sure that you don't get banned.

Selling Shoutouts, selling merch, flipping accounts, banking off cpa, etc. plenty more. Money can be made from anything as long as you have the mind for it.

You could see thousands dollar just with Instagram with 3 easy step

1. Open your instagram
2. Tap search hashtag
3. Type "money"
voila you will see thousands dollar there...

I'm not following on how you would be able to add links to your offers.

Shoutouts
Makes sense, a payment is sent and a photo of the product (and alternative description is added).

Merchandise
Creating your own brand (with a unique name) and promoting it.
When others search for your name, you'll show up and you could also add a link in the About section.

Flipping accounts
Why sell an account when you can promote it?

CPA
How will you link to a CPA offer?
The easiest way I can think of is creating a domain with a redirect (costs per domain though).

Also, I believe the majority of the users, use their mobiles.
The best CPA offers would be app installs (but that's PPI?), right?
