I am currently saving up for FL. But in the meantime are there any decent free bots or manual methods of gaining followers?

There's imacro script that is free to use. Search a few pages back for a thread about imacro.

For manaully, you can do mass follow and unfollow.

Manually like or follow people based on a picture's likes.

Those people are more likely to follow/like/comment on your pics.
