I have a friend who contacted me, says his Instagram account got hacked. When I visit the acount, I get this:

Ip9jBIw

It's kinda lol :D

But he says he contacted Instagram multiple times, and asked me if I can help in any way.

He's a verified member by the way, you know, the blue checkmark thing.

What do I tell him? I mean, what can he do here?

do you mind sharing that profile? kinda never saw that before lol

Is he locked out of his account?

Yeah.

I think he fell for a phishing thing. He received an email about a copyright strike, and if he wanted to complain about it he had to fill out some form.

I imagine it was a fake spoof email, and there was a link in it that he clicked which led to a fake page that looks real. He gave away his info, and his account was stolen. I think anyway.

That’s hilarious.

1. He’s messing with you for fun.
or
2. Contact Facebook support to request assistance , insta support is not much use.

He's not messing with me. His account has over 100k+ followers and he's a bit of a figure, and a serious person. He wouldn't do this for fun. He's very stressed out because of it.

Really? Like, what, go to Facebook.com and contact them about an Instagram issue? Isn't that, you know, crossing lines? Won't they just tell him that he should contact Instagram about it because Facebook and Instagram are different/separate websites (even though it's the same company).

But seriously, you think contacting Facebook about this could help?

No it’s not crossing lines at all. I’ve requested help from Facebook to do with Instagram before, employees with half a brain cell at FB are fully aware that there is next to no support on Instagram, this issues needs to be explained during the report process then at the very least a real human will review the case , it would obviously help if the report came from a linked fb account.

Use Facebook Ads support, even better if you have business manager. They reply by email and they give you a dedicated representative to reply to your messages until the problem is resolved. I've used it instead of regular facebook support (which gives you absolutely no support).

He contacted Facebook and was told that they they can't help with that problem. Please contact Instagram help center.

So there goes that...

He should then ask where this help centre is as there is no one there? You could try FB again and you might get an agent that's not so brain dead if you're lucky.

Instagram is restored.

They threatened Instagram and Facebook with legal action and international press (not empty talk), then they called them and restored the account.

I guess everything is possible :)
