In the same vein as the Leith thread I decided to post a little inspiration since so many IM'rs seemed confused or disheartened by IM and being at the mercy of algorithms and what not.
I am much older (in my 40's) than Leith but all that proves is an OLD dog can learn new tricks. I found this forum a year and a month ago while I was unemployed, having just been laid off from my job. Now a year later I am going to be in the 6 figure range through IM.
I started as an SEO newb, learned some BH and some WH and applied that to sites of my own, what I did not learn very well was how to monetize. What I did instead was parlay my skills into some clients which helped pay the bills and keep the family afloat. I then found a "job" doing SEO for a big company locally and still managed to keep my clients. Just 3-4 months after taking the job one of my clients has seen great success so he essentially bought me out by paying me what he was paying in addition to what my job was paying, which meant I got the same money for less hours and work. In addition, I can suggest niches and products for him which then increases my earnings, since he has put me on a performance plan that earns me bonuses as the site earns him ore $$$. My potential with this client (now my boss) is deep into 6 figures.
I also have managed to create sites for myself that have been supplying some additional income, even though I dont spend too much time on them anymore.
The point is, if you study enough, try hard enough and try different methods you will find some success even if it does not happen all at once. You will learn as you go if you take time to build, develop and nurture your sites. There are dozens of ways to make money online and simply finding your niche is the challenge. With my leadership training, marketing and business background, working for a client or company was best for me.
for you it might be adsence, or video marketing or social marketing. You can indeed turn a specialization into a career that can support you and your family that even has a chance to make you rich one day.
I feel that I am on the verge of doing just that thanks to what I have learned here and other places.
There are not real shortcuts however and it does take work up front, the important thing to do is TRY and take action, if you do not try you can never succeed.
All the best to my BHW friends!
