I've watched some videos about facebook ads where they show how to get likes on an facebook ad to gain social proof by targeting cheap countries like Philippines etc.

A lot of people are against this strategy because it can ruin the facebook pixel when doing retargeting etc.

But what if you just pick 5 cheap countries to pay for social proof then you EXCLUDE every cheap country you used for social proof when you start running conversion & retargeting campaigns. Would the conversion campaign or Facebook pixel still suffer from the earlier social proof campaign?

I started Facebook advertising this week so I might be missing something.

same thing can be applied if people of third world country will comment in your post giving negative impression. Wathc verum youtube channel and never buy paid ads. Join fb groups they are best source of learning for FB ads IMO.

What you're looking to do will work just perfectly. I would advise you go ahead and try it out.

That's exactly how the Facebook pixel works. Getting loads of likes from 3rd world countries is easy.

If you don't mind, can you share these kind of FB groups worth to join? I encountered some of these groups which are not helpful at all.... Thanks mate!

I don't understand the need for social proof, I create pages and on the same day I create ads with zero likes and zero comments and even so from the first day I get sales, I don't think it's worth mixing the pixel data to get engagement.

I can see how an ad with 1000 likes and many, many comments converts a lot better than an ad with 0 engagement.

I have also had ads without any engagement what so ever, and that's usually the way I work with Facebook ads - I simply target my ad towards the audience I'm looking to market to and don't really bother with all the artificial engagement stuff. I just happened to come across it at random once when I was marketing something worldwide on FB :)

Running ads for likes is way cheaper anyway so why would you target countries you don't intend to sell to?
Your pixel will be filling up with useless data...
And I second @Monzani , if you can, immediately run your ads for conversion, never a good idea to train your pixel to send you 'likes' as this is not the same target group of people as the ones that 'convert'.
The ad should showcase the product and raise enough curiosity for anybody in your target group to click on it, even without large social proof which will build up by itself within the target group anyway...

^ this if your product is good enough and your site looks clean no one cares if it’s got 10k+ Likes

I agree with what a few people above have already said. People who are interested in the product will click through regardless of how many likes an ad has.

Why dont you just use SMM panel for social proof and let it sit there for a day.

Then start your ad on the 2nd or 3rd day of it once your social proof stabilizes.

Then when retargeting you can just exclude the day you sent social proof from SMM panels
