I have a site in a health niche that is hard to crack. I purchased this site from bigbuddy and also had several linkpushes to the pages. Most of my articles are on page 2 but still not enough traffic. I tried to built a ton of web 2.0 sites with spun content that are really readable and I think unique enough since there are multiple levels of spinning there.

I have around 40 web 2.0 sites as first tier and also have 100 social bookmarks for each web 2.0 property then I purchased a 10k wiki blast at fiverr with around 5k unique domains pointed to the first tier.

When checking google webmasters it says the average position is at 12 but when I check the ranking using serp atttacks its last rankings where 223,171,121 respectively. I checked these only a couple of hours apart.

I don't know if the web 2.0 hurt my ranking or just plain dancing.

What do you think?

Enjoy the dance, sounds like you should pop back in. Keep us updated.

I will. it's been a week since this started. hopefully this is a positive thing

A week is very short term.

Dance is a minimum of 6 weeks and can go on for 6 months. (though 6 weeks or so is more often the case)

DON'T STOP MAKING LINKS!

If you stop now you have sent a very strong signal to Google that you - the site owner - have been involved in self promotion for a new site.

Are you deep linking?
Are you using a good spread of anchor text (no more than 30% of which are your targeted keywords)?
Are you linking from many different platforms?

DON'T just link from WEB2.0 to your site. (FFS why does everyone do this?) Again - this is a footprint. Google knows exactly what a WEB2 site is, and just how they are used by lazy internet marketers.

The WEB2 conference pretty much defines what WEB2 is - and Google send representatives. It was held originally in 2001, then every year since 2004 (so this Autumn with be the 10th - normally held in late October) While it is O'Reilly's baby - it's reports and definitions are taken by most in the industry to be the de-facto last word on everything WEB2

It goes as far as naming the exact platforms that our favourite search engine considers to be WEB2

So while I agree that the definition of WEB2 is fuzzy - the actual specification and labelling of sites and platforms that the search engines categorically DO CONSIDER TO BE WEB2 is very well defined.

In short;

If you use WEB2 platform - Google knows it is a WEB2 platform and that undoubtedly plays a part in its algorithm.
If all your 1st tier links are from the same sub group (WEB2) then you have made a clearly visible self promotion footprint.

Whether they act on it - or whether they will in the future who knows.
It's probably not the worst sort of spam. But the SE's have already taken action, albeit in a rather roundabout way.
Google's initial act was to devalue the hosted platforms themselves for not keeping their house in order and allowing the propogation of spam (Spring 2011)
In the intervening 18 months we have got smarter at getting around that - but in response, Googles ranking algo is getting more granular

Use high PR article sites, WIKI sites, press release, micro blog (bookmark style) and others. Even sprinkle in forums and blogs (not too many)

Scritty

I only do deep linking. I didn't do this in a single day. Keywords are diverse complete with generic keywords and naked urls.
