INP Check: Is it a legit ranking factor or just a massive dev trap?

Ever since Interaction to Next Paint (INP) became an official Core Web Vitals metric, everyone’s been stressing over JavaScript execution and main-thread blocking. Fixing it properly often requires serious dev hours.

But look at the actual SERPs. I’m seeing plenty of bloated, slow sites deep in the red for INP sitting comfortably at #1 because their link profile is a powerhouse.

Let’s get some real data in here:

The Rank Test: Have any of you taken a site from red to perfect green INP and seen a direct ranking lift without changing anything else?

The ROI: Are we wasting time chasing PageSpeed scores when that budget should just go straight into high-quality links?

Are you guys actively optimizing for INP right now, or just ignoring it and focusing on authority?

INP definitely plays a role in overall user experience, but from what I have seen, strong backlinks and site authority still have a much bigger impact on rankings in competitive niches. Improving Core Web Vitals is useful, especially if a site feels slow or frustrating for visitors, but I wouldn’t spend all my budget chasing perfect PageSpeed scores while ignoring content and link building. A balanced approach usually makes more sense.

Google said no spam sites or parasites, but you can still see tons spam sites for trending keywords. Same goes for this INP check, its one of the factors. Just by fixing it from red to green not going to move you up in the rankings alone.
