I have a problem. So you guys know how in wordpress you sticky the article that you want on your homepage. Well i assumed they count that as your homepage and for a few months it did.

EG: apples.com ranking for apples

Now it ranks at #9 for apples.com/apples . Is this how all wordpress is? I have 500 backlinks in YSE to my main page so of course it's hordes more in 2nd-3rd tier. But only 20 to my inner page.

Should i start promoting my inner page? (am i supposed to do that from the beginning) I don't get why my main page ranked for a while and then dropped, then my inner page took over but at #9.

I have seen inner pages outrank main pages alot of times.
You should always build backlinks to your main page and your inner pages.
Dont you do one of them, do both.

but why should that be an issue when the homepage has ALL my backlinking campaigns for 1 keyword. While the inner page has no backlinks. And same article.

You must give 1st priority to home page by doing good link structure. Download a1 web analyzer trail version and check the importance factor. And make more links to home page from internal pages.

This just happens from time to time with Google, it will get corrected at some point. Dont worry about it just keep building links to the homepage.

If you have done your SEO properly then you would have noticed that the inner pages tend to focus more on a specific thing as compared to the home page. That is why when you search for that specific thing, the inner page is bound to show up on a rank that is better than the home page. It is no big deal.

Google considers every single page individually. Just check the SERP for any phrase that come into your mind, and you'll see that in 90 out of 100 cases all top10 results are inner pages.

It's not true that you should focus on building links on your main page. Build few quality links on the inner page rather. It will rank much easier.

Its probably because that specific page is better optimized for the specific thing you're searching for than your root domain is. Each post/article will obviously have slightly different content so it will rank better/worse than other posts/articles for different search phrases.

If you have the same issue with ranking in MSN and Yahoo then it has to be SEO related. I can see why it's annoying but I agree with others that it isn't a big deal. People aren't stupid, they will find their way to your home page.

Not a whole lot of rhyme or reason to ranking. Sometimes I have my contact or about pages ranking higher than main page of EMD but only at beginning. After a few months not sure but like wowhaxor mentioned, it may be just better optimized, better content etc. Maybe people are spending more time on there, who knows? Make sure you have a few CTA's on that page though since it's getting some traffic at least. Also keep building to main page and get that ranking then other pages tend to be trusted overall on the domain as well.

Also after a few weeks is it still ranking over main page?
