Inmotion VPS vs. Vultr

Anyone have experience with these two companies? Looking to set up VPS hosting for my websites and considering these two.

Imotion seems to get very high reviews from a lot of sites, but seems a bit steep in cost after the first year. I only heard about Vultr on BHW so I don't know much about them except their website looks very clean. Lol.

For this project, I am looking for managed hosting. I want minimal headache so I can focus on SEO stuff to drive traffic. But of course, I'm not made of money so a decent cost per month is important as well.

A managed provider will be more no doubt. Vultr Digital Ocean and most of the VPS companies I use are self managed. I frequent webhostingtalk website as well from time to time to check out new companies and look at reviews. Whoever you go with I would only pay month to month and would not do a year up front. That way you can make sure they are a good fit. Also make sure you have good backups so you can move your sites if need be to another host. Backups are cheap downtime is not. + They also allow hourly billing, which is good for one time experiments where you can launch lots of servers for some period without paying much.
+ $2.5 per month plan offer 512MB RAMm 15GB SSD and 1TB bandwidth, enough for side projects or if you're creating your first website or application. You can always upgrade/downgrade if necessary.
+ They're reliable company backed by some reputed ventures/people in the industry.
+ They also offer backups/snapshots (manual backup is free of cost)
+ Dashboard/Admin panel is simple and intutive
+ There are lots of pre-configured templates available (for popular CMS/frameworks) that will save your time when launching new servers
+ Lots of tutorials available to help you out when you're stuck, so even if you're new to server admin stuffs you can easily get things done.

You can always give one a shot. Just make sure you keep backups of your site local so if something happens then you can move the site without any issues.

Vultr if you know what you are doing,

I've been on Vultr for over a year. I've done managed (Rackspace - $$$$) and unmanaged. I'd probably rate my Linux Sys Admin knowledge/experience as a B+ - like you it's not my primary job but it's nice to have full control of the server at all levels.

Vultr reliability has been as good as anyone I've used although you can expect your node to be rebooted once in a while (seems like about once a month or two for me). If you think you're on a problematic node though you can always spin up another VPS and transfer a snapshot. Daica85 made a good complete summary of what you get with Vultr. Their support response is FAST but I haven't really tested the limits as far as how far they'll go on task requests. Technically they are not a managed service but they are quick and knowledgable.

The reason why I'm late here is I was thinking of trying Inmotion for three reasons:

- They are managed, so if I choose I can just be totally hands off the server when I'm busy with other stuff
- They are slightly cheaper than Vultr (1-year contract though which I would hate being locked into - only downside I can see with Inmotion)
- Most importantly, looks like they have some sort of hotspare architecture so that if your node goes down, you're automatically transferred to another node instantly. At least that's how they describe it.

However, I think my current solution may still be best. I just use Vultr and have a sys admin contractor on standby in case I need help on tough sys admin issues. Their response time might be slower than Inmotion support, but anything that's critical (data center network outage, node crash, etc) is typically something the hosting provider would take care of anyway. Plus one of the main reasons I chose Vultr was to get a data center near me and they have one in my city so response time is 10ms! Inmotion down the coast from me in LA is 35ms response. I'm hosting intranet applications with heavy interfaces so the response time is critical.

I have signed up with Vultr, even though I give myself a rating of F- on how to manage a server. I've ordered a few books off Amazon to hopefully learn fast and at least bring myself to a respectable and passing C+ level.

I also signed up with Serverpilot. I'm not sure if this was a mistake or not. It seems easy to use, but I installed Wordpress through them and of course the wordpress was installed on the server on a serverpilot folder structure. So if I stop using Serverpilot in the future, will I need to move my Wordpress site in the server to a non-server pilot folder structure? Ugh...so many questions and so much to learn. I haven't launched my site yet as I'm still in building phase. I can already see the joys of managed hands-off hosting compared to this though. But my website is blazing fast on Vultr!

hi i too am thinking of doing the same thing. what has been your experience so far? And did u find an answer to your question ? - "so if i stop using serverpilot in the future..."

I evaluated vultr well. I have used 2 years and no problem.

Vultr is the reliable and affordable web hosting and I run my blog on Vultr, and so far so good. I manage my server with VPSrobots, I heard about ServerPilot but never used it, is it a good control panel for VPS?

Vultr.com is a bad service. I won't recommend for any serious minded person to use.

They are so terrible a company.
