what sort of sites? bit of a broad question, are you referring to html, wordpress?

Starting from scratch? In that case I suggest that you start out with a small challenge, like making a presentation page with some CSS. Then just add on more and more. Backend would come later. Might as well point to Boostrap right away - Bootstrap
