I'm actually kind of glad that Google always updates their search algorithms and filters out the blackhat guys. I don't want my search results cluttered by a bunch of niche websites with 'SEO' content.

I think lot of things are going to change. Site needs to be compatible with any device. Things are getting localized in searches.
#1 to #7 for Majority of the medium to high competitive keywords are occupied by sites like Wikipedia, Amazon, eBay kinda sites. Remaining minor keywords are mostly eaten up by Ads. Damn!

Google is favoring brands a lot now, but they are making it better with every update now.
