I want to learn SEO and ranking websites. Is it really hard to rank a .info as people say it is or is it a myth? I would really like to know ;)

Thanks

there are mixed opinions on that whenever that is asked. Personally i would recommend sticking to .com's ... saving $6 is not worth the risk of not ranking well.

Yeah, this is same situation to me, I am looking for buying a domain and I don't know what should I buy .info or .com; which is better for getting PR quick. Please any one just let us know about the fact.

.com / .net / .org or use a local TLD eg. co.uk if you're going for a local search market. Leave the .infos alone IMHO; some people think there's no difference, but personally I find .infos are longer and harder to rank.

I agree with you there. I started out with .infos because I didnt know what the hell I was doing but I have to the cash to spend a little more and always try and get the .coms now.

The highest I got an .info up to was #5

I have a .info and many other .coms and .nets. You can rank using a .info but it'll take much more effort.

I wonder what has more weight....EMD .info or a KW rich .com/org/net. I haven't done any testing yet, but that would be interesting to know.

The problem doesn't lie with the domain extension, but with your SEO techniques. I have a lot of .com, .net, .org, .us. and .info sites. There is no difference in difficulty or rank time. The only extensions proven to have more weight are .gov and .edu.

I agree with talwin. Many have this misconception about the domain extensions. The com is just better because it will flip faster if that's your plan. If you wanna keep the site is better to get the most suitable extension for the domain that has your main keyword in it!
I ranked many info's without issue, sometimes maybe easier as the sites were just that - info sites - the kind that the extension was designed for...
I actually buy info's for the keyword rich domain names that are not available with coms and others - it works well to either bump another site or develop the domain.

I have seen a .info site rank in top 3 spot for a very competitive keyword that has over 1 million searches per mo according to Google adwords keyword tool.

As for the difficulty of ranking, I can't really say a thing as I normally use .com/net/org. I have created multiple .info's this month and I will see how it will go..
