Info on Google behavior & how to have google DDOS a site

Interesting story by someone who accidentally DDOS'd his own site with a google service, as well as info that google is apparently crawling info contained inside of google docs, and some observations on how google crawlers function....

Won't work on most websites. The IP will get blocked pretty quickly with any sort of simple firewall setup, since all requests are from the same IP.

true, but one could theoretically do the same to a site running on AWS....

personally I was a bit more intrigued with the fact that they're crawling private google docs material as well as some of the data of how their bots are operating... some other good info in there besides the main story IMHO...

I would agree with this except for the fact that it is a google address that is doing the downloading. if it was from a website that is not a search engie i can see this type of thing getting cought really quickly, but I would assume (and possibly incorrectly) that most sites allow google to do whatever they want to them due to the fact they want higher rankings.
 
to be honest I`ve noticed such huge crawl attack rates before on some other services of their own but I tough I`m just bit '' lucky '' for such things to happens :) I never tough that's actually works for crawl / well in this case force crawl various urls :) ... anyway worth to try on my list now :) ....
 
I feel bad bringing back a month old thread, but...

Couldn't we use this method to instantly index sites with Google?
 
a few years back i had google clicking all my links over and over it was a mess.
