The only market amazon can actually compete with Ebay is the American market.
More Americans buy from Amazon, but the rest of the world? I would give 75% of total non-US sales to Ebay VS Amazon.

For many reasons. The shipping from amazon if you are not an American is ridiculous.
I wouldn't disregard Ebay so quickly buddy.

I think you should set up an action-thriller flick about this title. It is obvious that there is a great market out there with millions of people ready to watch. You are marvellous.

interesting although hardly revelatory.

but yes, ebays model is unlikely to survive in the long term. the brand is its key but it is not strong enough and is readily associated with cheap knock offs. once an alternative offers a niche that ebay cant stop or counter ebay will start a slow downwards spiral.

still got quite a few years left though

I sure hope little sites like ioffer take the reign...but once they become popular (if ever) then they'll probably start to charge just like ebay lol.

Lucky the death of EGay does not affect me at all, because try as i will the idiots just dont want to approve me in there partner program so i can promote the products on my website.

It will serve them right if they go down, for not accepting all possible sources to generate revenue thru

I am a copywriter, and working with a client who is dealing with Alibaba as part of the plan. I cannot say anything more, but I think the OP has shown a lot of prescience as to where the market is going.

The site hasn't been the same since they kicked the mom and pop sellers of unique goods to the gutter. They destroyed the heart and soul of the company.

That said, I don't think eBay will ever disappear. There will always be an eBay, even if it's a neutered version of itself.
