I program desktop apps right now. Good money in it and all, but nothing like $50k/day. We always hear about the successful games, but hardly ever about someone's game failing. I know some of you on here have made mobile games so...

Has anyone here made a mobile game? For what platform? How did it go?

Please don't reply with advice if you've never owned an app. Don't need any post inflation fluff in this thread.

not exactly zero i have earned 623$ from the month of august and today 11 feb 2014

i mean to say i have not earned like flappy birds or neither i am on it's 1 % in earning

but i am not happy with the results of rickshaw racer was earning 18$/day then suddenly error comes in a update of string to int conversion and it's crashed everytime users opened it old users give bad reviews and the rank was dropped from top 100 in new racing game to no where in top 1000 or 2000 ...

I got pretty good success. If you know how to market there is tons of money to be made.
My apps have close to a Million downloads in total.

I really have no idea how long does it take to finish a game. For your game Rickshaw racer, do you work like 16 hours a day to finish it in 2 months? Or just few works everyday will get it done?

i have a few apps under my belt. It's a lot harder to make a killing with apps than most people think. For every flappy birds jackpot, there's a hundred million losers.

Like in SEO, you have to have a good 'niche'.

A niche in this case means a game that people will fall in love with. This can be a copycat of already existing games or a new concept that has not been big yet.

If you think about creating such a game, think about the following:
Do you have the coding skills to realize a game from beginning to end for mobile platforms (Android, IOS)?
Do you have the graphic designer skills to do outstanding work?
    What about game music?
Do you have a publisher? Do you need a publisher?
Are you experienced in SEO / app-marketing (which is a completely different deal from website and 'normal' marketing)?
Do you have to time for all of this?

Many people with coding experience think they can create a game just like this. Most of them fail because they can't deal with the things on the sideline (graphics, music, marketing, ...) or simply don't have the will to keep developing a game for several months, many hours a day, each day.

If you still think about going deeper, try to buy some if the services you are not very good at from others who are specialized in it => fiverr or other platforms will help you.

    It's all in the promotion.

Bare in mind until Flappy Birds happened to be seen being played on a popular youtube game channel nobody had even heard of it.

    Yes, its marketing,
btw the game flappy bird is a very easy game to create.
If you have some knowledge, few hours or 1 or 2 days should be more than enough.

The developer concept is quite good, he do only super simple mini game which will only took him few hours to make.
So it didn't hurt even if it didn't sell much.

But the truth is the success is due to marketing, and the great review strategy. The App Store is greatly saturated. So if you don't have any marketing skill. Don't even think of it.

Coding wise, its really not that hard. Google is full of step by step tutorial for you to follow. There are third party solutions such as corona or unity which makes development easy. Unity even have some presale templates like fruit ninja where u can just hire some designer and change the graphics and upload. Basically game music, graphics and coding for such simple app shouldn't have any problem, you can just hire someone to do it. iPhone and android app u can just pay 25 or 99 and become a indie developer easily.

But for it to be successful, marketing is the main thing.
Btw , although i don't develop games, i have been a mobile app development industry for few years.

    Cheers

    @DanTe

yeah for first game it was nice i was also doing freelancing that time

so the time which i gave is less per day the main prob. was graphics

you have to do all things your self if you individual graphics, coding, collect sound effects etc..

@spaceZeus it was like few work everyday and do some freelancing to refresh your mind :D which can bring some $$ :D

If anyone wants to JV and has a game similar to flappy bird or a simple addicting game. I will make it go viral.
