I am still sort of new to SEO . Is there a difference between pinging and indexing?.. Which one is better or should i be doing both. Please respond

Thanks

The way pinging helps with SEO is by alerting a lot of different sites that there is new content for them to check out. This also alerts Google that there is some updated content that they need to go over and crawl. Once the robots have crawled the content it will get indexed in the search engine results.

I actually don't recommend indexing tier 2 links by pinging. Moreover build a tier 3 or using indexing services like backlinksindexer

Pinging helps in Indexing.... :)

Your question is not clear !

You right. That's why i answered his question in both meanings (what is pinging, which one is better for indexing)

Yes I see...Not sure if OP got it or not !

The 2 are essentially different...

Indexation is when a page is listed and used by a search engine. This is not something you can DO; it is something that happens to your page if it is deemed 'worthy' by a search engine...

Pinging on the other hand is a way of attempting to notify a SE that a new page exists; it is something that you can do if you choose, although the effectiveness is widely argued. Pinging and using RSS feeds used to be very powerful , but now it's increasingly unlikely to have any effect on indexation unless that page has other factors that make it worthy of indexation.

Thanks to everyone that has responded.. however i am still unclear whether i need to be doing the two .. for example on GSA ..i use the GSA indexer to index my links.. is this enough or does it make sense to still go and ping those links with for example ping farm
