my gf started her own site its a wordpress blog and she started it as a test site for all the white hat techniques i have used etc.

since day 1 she has followed everything i have told and taught her and she has a decent running site and is very near number 1 spot for her keywords.

but there is one problem and i just cannot get my head round it or solve. if you type in her main keywords she ranks in the top 3 but the indexed page isnt the home page it is a small post she made in may. i just cant get her homepage to rank for her main keyword phrase despite the fact it does for her other keyword phrases.

the home page is optimised for her main keyword and the domain is the main keyword phrase. i dont want to over spam the phrase either.

    any ideas?

P.s sorry for bad grammar etc im at work with a short break

Can't say without checking your site... Can only guess...

    1) Your other post may got more backlinks for particular keywords then your home page.

    2) Your other post may be more optimized then home page

Solution : Just keep working on home page and it will eventually show up in ranking. BTW whats issue if some other post is showing up in ranking, if need improve content of that post. It's always better to have several ranking with several different keywords and several URLs... More variations :) and your site will have better authority then others.

G it´s weird when it comes to indexing sometimes.

Make sure to bookmark the main adress, then ping it. Also have a bigger list of pings on the "writing" section of wordpress. A few more posts and it should update you.

It's a blog, why does it matter that her homepage doesn't rank as high? She's still ranking isn't she?

If ranking the homepage is that important to you, do what bizroot says. It is likely (95% likely) that the post page is better optimized for the keyword than the home page. Basic SEO on the homepage:

    Keyword in <head> tags
Keyword in an image <alt> tag
Keyword in the first 90 words of the page.
    Keyword density of 2-5%
    Keyword links

    etc. etc.

If you rank a post page for the main keyword phrase, I would just move on and rank for other keywords. Pending on your type of website, it doesn't matter really how the visitor came to your website-- as long as they're targeted and have a "buyer's" mindset.
