Indexing Ecommerce Store Issues

This is becoming beyond frustrating for me and my business partner atm.

We have an ecommerce shop but trying to figure out the issue.

Lets say for example, my shop is called - doglead.com

The products I sell are

- Blue Dog Lead
- Black Dog Lead
- Red Dog Lead
- etc, etc

In the perma structure on my e-commerce shop, it will look like

doglead.com/blue-dog-lead

Google seems to be constantly fucking with our rankings.

For example, one day it will choose to index

doglead.com for my products

and then a few days later it will then choose to index the product pages itself.

It has been doing this now for the past few months.

What are we missing here ? How can we resolve this ?

We are on Woocommerce.

Your issue likely stems from inconsistent canonical tags or duplicate content signals; ensure proper use of canonical URLs, structured data, and consolidate ranking signals between category and product pages to stabilize rankings.

as @1SEOWarrior said, this is most likely a canonicals issue, although I'd also add a content optimization issue (but canonicals first and foremost)

If Google thinks that your homepage is better optimized for "dog lead" keyword they will show this page in SERPs for this keyword. This justifies why the homepage shows up for this keyword, but the fact that google switches between the homepage and the inner page seems to be - indeed - a canonical issue....

Also, if you've - indeed - created 3 different pages for the keyword (dog lead) then you're running into content duplication issues as all 3 keywords (blue dog lead + red dog lead + black dog lead) have the same intent and google will choose to rank one of these pages only (probably the one with the highest authority and / or lowest competition) and completely disregard the other 2 pages since they are identical to the 3rd page (they might even deindex them if the content is extremely similar)

Just create 1 page called "dog lead" (although, it looks like the homepage already targets this keyword, so you can use the homepage instead of creating another one) and put all of the colours on that page and be done with it!
