I have just started a new site 4 weeks ago and the domain is also brand new (not used by any one in the past). I have written a few articles and all of these articles are already in the top 5 positions for their keywords. I have not build any type of backlinks for the site except only 1 PR7 backlink. So I was thinking how it is possible for a totally new site to have such an amazing rankings? Is it because of that single link??

Are you logged into Google when doing your searches? That can throw off the rankings. Good luck to you.

That is totally unreal. But from my 5 years of SEO experience, I personally do not look at my own websites PR rank, its just a reputation indicator, but it has never correlated itself to ranking results.

BTW the actual keyword that its ranking for matters a ton, if its a low trafficed keyword with low competition, ofcourse its high.

If you are willing to share the keyword and domain, I can do an analysis for you. Or else its just a guessing game

There are many old authority domains (5+ years) competing in the same niche and my site has easily outranked them for the same keyword. Looks like Google loves my site.
@Thedorf: No, I was not logged in to my account.

New sites have a honeymoon period in Google. After a while, your site will fall off the SERPS unless you start to build diverse links at a growing velocity.

What traffic you get from your keywords? Maybe that keywords are low competition.

Yeah I have checked it multiple times. My homepage is at 15th position for my main keyword. {keyword is a high competition with 15000 local searches monthly}.

Its not too soon to get good rankings. I have had sites debut in spot 6 and stay on the front page forever, well so far anyway..

If the competition has done a bad job of optimization, and you have done better, you will rank. Even if there is a lot of competition.

If you happen to be the best solution Google has for their search query, you will be first.

Want proof? Put up a site targeting a nonsense term, get it indexed, then search for that term. You will be number one.

Honeymoon period plus that PR7 backlink you made will help a lot!
