I saw a YouTube video on increasing visitors by following celebrities. I know it works, but is it possible you will get banned after repeating this often.

Following celebrities can get you a few followers since some accounts use bots to follow the new followers of large celebrity accounts. These accounts will generally have no genuine interest in your content and will most likely unfollow you pretty quickly though.

Yeah, it's pretty much a waste of time. That's not surprising though since OP heard about the strategy from a YouTube video that was probably uploaded by some self-proclaimed "Instagram Guru".
