Increase wifi connection

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have just started renting a room in a shared apartment but no wifi. However, there is a bar/restaurant directly below us where i can pick up the wifi but the signal strength is crap. I have 1 to 2 bars, so it disconnects a lot.

What can i buy so i can pick up a stronger signal ?

But a WiFi extender and put it a little bearer to the source WiFi.

Or by a stronger WiFi card for your computer, one with a big freestanding antenna.
 
Wifi extenders really do work. You can buy them from any local grocery store with an electronics section. Usually.

Just to clarify, this is not my wifi, nor do i have the access to it. It is the restaurants wifi, so would the wifi extender still work, as it looks like you can use it only if you have access to there router ?

Yes it will work. You join the extender to their WiFi network just like you’d join your pc to their network.

The extender will then amplify the network signal, so you can then connect to it and have a greater connection strength.

Ahhh ok thanks for that mate, I didn't realise.

So these extenders, do you have to keep them plugged in ?
 
Like @davids355 said, you will need a WiFi range extender. However, there is a caveat to that AFAIK. That extender has to be installed where the WiFi signal is strong (may be, somewhere between your room and the bar). So, the bar owner might be able to detect what you are doing and take action; LOL.

Also, yes.. you will have to keep the extender plugged in. It's basically just another router, receiving and re-distributing the signal further.

Can any of you guys recommend me a wifi extender ? There is so many and i dont fancy buying something and wasting my money.

I have 1 - 2 bars of signal, which is weak... so the connection is very unstable. One moment it can work and it cuts out.

Would the wifi extenders also work all over the apartment. For example if i am in my room or in the sitting room, it would work ?

sorry for so many questions, just i need a stable internet connection for work and its bugging me out this wifi situation.
 
I use, a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC2600 WiFi Router and it's insane. But expensive.

Lol dude, that's one of the worst excuses I have ever heard about. I mean seriously? You work, and other people pays for the internet? Shame on you haha. Anyways, if it's open wifi... It IS open wifi.... Even if bad karma.

This is what is confusing me about wifi extenders.

So when you say i need to install the wifi extender, how is that done exactly ? do you have to plug in the wif extender in the bar/restaurant lol ? or something else ?

also another point that is confusing me, is that if I only get 1 or 2 bars signal now and sometimes none, as i have to move around the sitting room, at various locations, angles to pick up a shit signal. How does the wifi extender increase that signal ? my room is at the end of the hall, would the signal that is re-distrobuted be strong enough to be picked up from my room ?

A wifi extender is yet another wifi router. In fact, most of the modern routers come with extender functionality. That extender has to be somewhere, where the signal is strong. Otherwise, if it doesn't receive signal, what would it repeat?

The way most of the bar wifis work in my location, they use a moderately weak router, which works only within the building that it is supposed to be in. So, on the building wall may be? Not sure.
Another option which David pointed out, could be useful; i.e. using a super strong network card. It will be able to pickup even the slightest of the signals.

If I was you, I would just take an internet connection lol. Don't you have mobile internet or something? Where do you live, atlantic ocean? :p
 
You could also buy or ask a friend for an old ass router, connect a parabolic antenna on it (ive seen people doing it on youtube) and then youll be able to reach for unlocked connections about 50 meters away. Just search about it, im pretty shure youll find a good guide on how to do this.
 
Yes it has to be plugged in and yes it’s got to be near the source router.

But, hopefully you can find somewhere nearer to their router, but still inside your property, so you are picking up the strongest signal possible and then amplifying it from there.

Look up net gear range extenders, they’re pretty decent.
 
you can cut a tube and stick it inside with silver chocolate foil. put it inside extender and you will get a better signal
