your ultimate goal is to get your site in google, one way or another (whitehat or blackhat like most of us are doing anyway by buying backlinks). Once you're on the first page of google and get even 10-20 visitors a day but CONSTANTLY you will start getting sales, subscribers or whatever the hell you're selling (I hope you do have monetization methods on your site, or else there's no point in teaching people about WP if you're not making any money out of it).
Be warned, however, that the competition is fierce in this industry, so your site will probably not rank in google anytime soon in the next 6 months, and that's assuming that you are doing everything right, which is (in THIS order)...
1) target low competition keywords... you need to do your own research on what "low competition keywords" are because sometimes low competition does NOT mean low search volume. Most of the time, it's true, but not always, and definitely not in a competitive niche like WP tutorials;
2) create good content... content that contains lots of useful information (preferably little known tips and tricks on how to perform popular tasks that are not well, or enough explained by other websites in your niche), add quality images, stats, tables, infographics, videos, all that crap. You don't need to insert one of each element in all of your articles,. but if it makes sense to add tables, or infographics, or videos in particular articles / posts go for it. Otherwise still focus each article / post on providing information that is relevant to the targeted keyword. Also, the content must be posted to your site CONSISTENTLY (at least once or twice per week, or every 2 weeks is a good frequency but the important part is that you should do this every week for all eternity, until google disappears, or until you get burned out and go insane... whichever comes first). It's a harsh reality, but slaving your life away to make filthy rich companies like google even richer is what life means on this planet. So, either adopt this model, or - if you are filthy rich yourself - outsource the content creation to people in 3rd world countries who need that money to live one more day;
3) get backlinks.... and not just any backlink. Buying 100s or 1000s of web 2.0, blog comments, profile links, and all that crap has stopped working quite some time ago. You need ULTRA MEGA SUPER high quality backlinks which, in your case, means guest posts from RELEVANT websites in your niche (it doesn't have to be from other websites specialized in WP tutorials, could be from sites focused on web hosting, or sites focused on programming in generals, or tech-oriented sites that have tutorials themselves, etc.... Basically, websites that are even remotely related to your niche, which is a broad one and consists any of these sub-niches: techonlogy, wordpress, web hosting, programming, how to, site building, tutorials, etc... Just don't get backlinks from sites like dog training, weight loss, football, etc... These niches have nothing to do with your website's niche and if you do get backlinks from them your backlinks won't matter that much. It won't get you into trouble with google... well, not if the websites are good, that is (not spammy), but it won't help you too much, either. So, acquire backlinks from sites that RELEVANT to your niche and you're good). Also important: acquire backlinks CONSISTANTLY rather than in batches. Meaning, you will want between 2 and 5-6 backlinks per month for several months (or until you start ranking on first page of google consistently) after which you can increase the number of backlinks you get to 10-20 per month. But be warned that you will have to pay a shit-ton of money for these backlinks, because they can cost you anywhere from $50 to $500 apiece. Better that you search the marketplace on this forum for special offers as these offers come and go pretty often on BHW. But you'll have to make your due diligence in order to avoid being ripped off, you will want backlinks that are from RELEVANT sites in your niche (RELEVANCY is the secret, that's why I keep typing it in all caps), and also from sites that get organic traffic from google themselves. Do not focus sites with high third party metrics (DA, DR, TF, and all those crappy metrics). If you want to rank in google you only worry about the metrics that google cares about, not ahrefds, moz and all other parasites that have built a business on what they assume that google cares about. Sure, if you find deals for backlinks from sites that (1) are RELEVANT to your niche, (2) are NOT spammed / penalized by google in any way, shape or form, (3) get even a few visitors per day from google you can then target sites with high metrics, too (with at least 30-40 DA, with at least 15-20 TF, and so on). But these metrics should only matter AFTER the other 3 conditions have first been met;
This is the best way to get traffic because - like it or not - google's traffic is still the best type of traffic you can get (it's the most targeted and the most prone to spend money on whatever you're selling because this traffic has found your site through google and they trust google, therefore they will trust your site).
If getting organic traffic from google is out of your reach for now (which I assume it is), then the fastest way to get traffic (which is still targeted) is via social media (facebook, twitter), youtube, linkedin, pinterest and specialty forums. All these traffic sources will be easier and faster to get traffic from than google, but even so, you still need to spend time and/or money on creating content for these sites
