I'm rather new to the whole ad*sen*se thing and recently got activity on my placed ads. Only thing is I'm getting like 18c for 9 clicks. Even worse, last night I saw 1c for 3 clicks.

I don't know if this is normal and if it is, I know I can filter the ads that show up on my page and I even saw such a list in one of the threads but I have been searching all morning and can't find it again.

Would really appreciate it if anyone could share it again.

what he is saying is correct for certain ad systems. But cannot be applied to google. I get funny things from adsense as well. I have 3 blocks on my page I have moved them around tried content types etc. But just cant find a pattern that will give me the best CPC. For example my top ad, Text banner horizontal ad will get 30c but then on the same page an hour later the vertical text banner ad on the right, that is below and loads after the top banner gets a click of $1.20....... then I will get a click on 1c but most are between 25c - 35c. I would love to know how I can get every click to the $1.2 CPC. I tried reducing the ad's to lesser so less ads would be presented, thus highest value only. That did not work! Change keywords & text throughout the page (ie more spamming to the high payers) that did not work.

I think ad's are just pumped out in a more random order. It would not suprise me is google are now pushing out the bottom end of the ppc ad's for the keywords as they know they are getting the clicks on the sponsored ads on the SE, but NOONE clicks on the More Sponsored Ad's link! So thats the ads we are getting!!

I dunno..... kind of given up trying to work it out myself. If I stumble across something that helps then I will look at it again.

your traffic might be crap, i mean is your traffic the social traffic type eg.. digg etc if it is then that might be the reason you are experiencing such low clixx... get search engine traffic by writing more articles

I'm ranked 8 for my keywords and that is all traffic I get. I have looked at blocking but I will look into it further before attempting anything. Mind you I got 1 click an 0c earned lol.

Yeah you need targeted traffic if you hope to get any clicks. If someone is just browsing, their chance of clicking is very very small

Thanks for all the replies but I think I got it.

I did end up filtering my ads,

    Code:
    http://www.adsblacklist.com/
was my first trial and happened to be my last. I generate a list, mind you the results were pretty generic and had just about nothing to do with my niche, used it and wham! Now I'm averaging .4 to $1.2 p/click.

I'm not pushing the site, I'm just saying that so far it looks like it's working. Obviously there is still a lot more to it but I'm happier now. Shit my ad*se*nse account is over 5 years old and generated me a whopping $17 and now in 3 clicks I'm getting $1,73.

Next is optimizing my placement. I have a pretty sneaky way of placing it in my nav bar, camouflaged to look like the rest of the links there and is also working. I doubt this is against TOS as I'm not changing code and it clearly says "ads by Noodle".

Why did I only find out about "smart pricing" now, it seems that if your CTR is too low you get flagged and your earnings are divided by 2 to even 10. So it doesn't matter who's ads are displaying on your site, if you're tagged, you'll only get a fraction of what you should be earning.

and if your site and visitors are good, the bids can be much higher on premium.
