This might sound like a detail, but while searching for something very specific, I stumbled across this :

There are 140'844 user accounts on BHW that have been registered before 2012 and have no post.
78'851 of them were registered before 2011 (which is quite a lot)
Most of them have completely bs nicknames and show a "latest activity" date that is the same as the join date (obviously created by bots).
Additionally, 26'769 of this inactive 0 post accounts have a homepage URL, so I can safely say they were created only for the sake of a profile backlink.

So I was wondering why does BHW keeps these inactive accounts hanging there, is there a point in keeping them apart from wasting DB space ?

It would require no work to selectively delete those accounts with no post and no activity for more than say 6months or 1year, wouldn't it ? And the Member List would look a bit cleaner IMO.

Well, just a thought :)

@Zak Those numbers are high!:O
Also i have notices some ID's with 1 or 2 post count bumping old posts. I think its time for Mod's and Admin's to pull up there socks.

When looking for a specific member on the member list- it is crazy seeing how many accounts there are with no posts. I agree it would make it a lot cleaner and easier to find people; as at present you have to scroll through hundreds of pages of bots.

high user account numbers are good for BHW regardless for the same reason account counts (active/real/otherwise) were good for Facebook.

Yep, you can check them yourself easily by going to Member list -> search -> advanced search -> Simply fill the search form with "post count: less than 1", "join date: before whatever date you want" and hit search.

Yeah, removing all the accounts that have no posts and have not been active for over a year might be a good thing. Maybe Peter will say something.

they are lot of members who joined in 2011 are active today .Oldies are busy making money with the tactics they always use.

Will look into this and discuss it with the other staff, thanks for the feedback

Agreed on this one. But insteading of deleting the old accounts maybe we can deactivate those accounts. Their are a lot members who doesn't like post but they still browse around

so there leechers then, they come here to take what they can, make money
of others posts and advice, never thank anyone for it.
ide say there prime targets to get deleted, why keep something that gives
nothing. which is better a forum which has an actual active member base
or a member base of thousands of no post members, leeching the forum
for everything they can take while giving nothing back, no posts not even
a thankyou

I agree with OP and with 'proxygo' too. Users who only take and never thank or share anything don't deserve to be BHW members. But still they can see public BHW forum without an account so all those inactive accounts should be safe to delete in my opinion.

Yeah its interesting because I wonder what the statistics are for all of these leechers
viewing our methods we share and saturating them but never giving anything back
to the community. Seems like a one way street to me :playball:

I hate seeing those bloody google bots on forums!!
