Improving Content Writing Skills? Any online resources?

How's it going BHW?

I am migrating my offline business site to WP, and realized that I really suck at content writing for websites. I find myself spending frustrating hours just trying to figure out how to word things, and what depth of information I should enter. I guess an hand-written outline of the website would be a good start?

Does anyone have any good tips or even some online resources where I can brush up my skills a bit more?

I would say read more books. Find authors that you like, and try to mimic their writing style. CS Lewis, and Charles Spurgeon are two writers that I am fond of their writing. Also, maybe taking a creative writing class in a community college could be a cheap and helpful way to help your writing.

One tip is the more writing you do, the better your output...

You will have bad days, and blocks but you need to stick at it...

Plus do lots of reading, as this helps increase your knowledge base, style and genre.

The most effective method to improve your own sales copy skills is to read and analyze successful sales copy in my opinion. Reading theory and technique has some benefits no doubt, but it is no substitute to reading great copy.

To have an idea on what you need to write, you could browse and read related blogs to your niche. That way, you'll never run out of ideas and you can improve your writing skills.

Content writing can be really hard that even those that have been writing for years will still find it hard to start writing for certain topics. This is because when writing, you need to concentrate so make sure that you will only start once you are completely focused. Another great tip is to keep it simple. You don't need to make it long and deep. Just remember to put the purpose of why you are writing content in the first place. Only include the most important facts your readers need to know.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to take a look at some sales material and do some reading to improve. It's just such an annoyance to sit there and spent 3 minutes thinking on what word to use.

To be able to write good, you must first know your purpose. This will be your guide. Also, as mentioned by others, learn from other who are on your niche, learn from their styles.
