Improving Bounce Rate

My site generates a lot of new visits from SEs, social media, and referring sites, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to bring them back to the site.

I'm working on a new layout for my homepage, as that gets hit the most, but I don't know if design is necessarily the issue.

My site is behindthehype.com

Any advice on getting repeat visitors?
 
Advertise on BHW
Using your analytics find out what people are clicking on the most (are the most interested in).

Then make sure these links are clearly visible (in the top of your menu for example) in order to lead your visitor to click on that link.
 
peoples coming back if they have a reason to do so ... :) if they come on your site and they didn't found what they was looking for :) where it's the reason for them to come back ?
 
Your site seems to take too long to load. Social networking traffic has a really high bounce rate compared to other sources. They gray layout is depressing. The fonts are uninspiring. It look like a corporate made for adsense website. It evokes no excitement of emotion. Upon viewing your website few would have any idea what's it's even about. As Ebert would say; two thumbs down.

I appreciate the feedback...much of it is identical to my own feelings, but I wanted to get some opinions that weren't my own.

are your visitors coming in on your homepage or to internal pages?

check your stats to see what keywords people are hitting your site for

also as someone mentioned if your using google analytics look at your overlay for clicks and see what links people are clicking on

also try checking out one of those opensource heat/click maps - would give the link but lost the ones i would recommend due to hard drive dying over the weekend :(
 
Personally from my view I was ready to close the site after 3 seconds, why? Because there are very small previews of each post and not actually any content that grasps me from the get go.

I cannot work out what the site is immidiatly within the short time I viewed it. (you have to cater for this) In seconds you should be able to know what the site is and what it's for.

Above the fold, all I see is 2 ads and a huge picture, the review sections are both very small snipits.

Check somewhere that grasps the readers attention better like "shoemoney.com"

Anyway don't take offence, this is, as you asked for, just my honest oppinion and why I'd not have hung around on the site...

It loaded very quickly in my browser and looks like a nice clean theme to use.
 
Basically you need to add something that would attract people to click within your website and not just leave without going any where other than your landing page, doesn't matter how much time they might spend on your actual website, they should actually browse through it.

yes i agree with the small view, maybe you should visit digg.com and you will see why their layout is more appeal to the visitor
