It might be a bit too late to post in this thread...but these are my experiences when it comes to ranking in Amazon:
Consider that your listing is an article that you want to rank in Google. Therefore, you need to take the following measures:
- Use keywords in the title of listing. The title is very important factor when it comes to ranking in Amazon and, also, it provides another advantage: the amazon link will be composed of words from the title. So you will have keywords in the link, too;
- Use keywords in the short description, under the title;
- Use as many keywords as you can ( but without being spammy), in the product description. LSI is also very important in Amazon, too. So don't neglect it. Create a comprehensive description (the characters limit is pretty high, so use this in your favor).
- Use the Amazon special HTML tags to highlight, bold, and make italic text ( keywords). Also, don't forget to add H1, H2...etc. tags and integrate videos/ pictures, too.
- Add reviews that contain keywords in title and in content, too;
- Do not forget about the seller rating;
Things that automatically increase ranking: reviews and sales.
