Improve SERP on inner pages

A newb here to SEO & link building, I am running a website with alot of contents, lets just say over 500000 content pages, all of which have different keywords.

Does building links to the home page increases serps to all its sub pages?

What types of SEO/Backlinks are most beneficial for this kind of website?

I was just going to create a similar thread. I also want to know the answer to this question. Should we backlink to individual articles/pages?

With good internal linking it can help a bit, don't expect massive results in a short time though. What "kind" of seo/backlinks are most beneficial isn't a question that can be answered in a post, perhaps not even in a book -- web 2.0. links are always good, start from there imo. I suggest you read up on backlinks in general and make a strategy that will fit your site best. Really can't be much more specific than that with the little info I have

to mag1987 - I would definitely suggest linking to individual pages, all links to the homepage isn't very natural & linking to individual pages can have great results.
