Just found this thread... but I read that article from Keith the next day it came out. Someone who has been coaching me has been preaching this for a while now. Content, Value to the visitor and relevant backlinking is what he has been saying to me.
Some key items to point out that I seen from Keith, was, 'countless' but not worthless. I'll still be doing link building, but way more targeted. I really suck at writing content, but have a few writers that have been doing great for me... though it did take a few to weed out some.
+1 to fvcktheworld and aftershock2020 posts, as this has been the model I have tried to work on with my sites from the beginning. I'm still really new to what and how I am site building, but I'm not trying to build over night success sites. Steady Eddie is what I am doing... I'm thinking about what my sites will be like 6 months to a yr from now. Will I be adding value to my visitors. Value first and profits later (I'm hoping)

In my experience at least, having good content on the page is not necessary. Neither is having the keywords I'm trying to rank for, on the page I'm trying to get ranked.
For ex: I got a clients' homepage ranked at #1 in Google for 2 diff. keywords.
The keywords are in the Title tag, Description tag & Keyword tag but NOT anywhere on the homepage. I use those 2 keyword terms in the anchor links back to her site. The homepage has been #1 in Google for about 6 months now.
ALL the backlinks come from high PR blog comments, edu, gov & com forum profiles and authority sites. NONE of the backlink sites are relevant to her niche. There is no relevant content in my blog comments either. The comments are related to the blog posts only.
I'm not seeing the necessity of relevancy, yet.
Edit: I forgot to write that she has a blog in a subdirectory, like www.domainname.com/blog
I'm sure the blog, which she updates daily, has a LOT to do with her rankings b/c I haven't built any backlinks for her in like 5 months.

SEO issues are interlinked. Content is important for search engine ranking. However, what happens if two sites have the same quantity and quality of content. That is where off-page optimization comes in. The web pages that has more backlinks refencing the particular web page wins over the one without any form of reference from other web pages.

1- what is best to me when i want to make some good comments in some site to rank my site
is the best to me to say in the comment for example " great article thanks i will book mark your site ....etc " or write good comment about my site and description it in the comment?
i ask this because i see the two ways in many comments and i want to know what is the best between them
2- let us say that i found many links from the same site so can i write comments in all these links by comment in it with any comment and put my site in the web site tab or this is not allowed in google terms and will say that i`m spammer and go in sandbox?
3- what is the best in write comments
write some good words only or i can make good words and put my site as anchor text to the word that i want to catch it in search engines ?

They have always been counting on-topic contextual links as an important factor.. looks like now, with comment spam on the rise and such, they are boosting the degree of importance of "topic specific" up quite a few notches.
The way I see it:
Old algo:
Contextual links in on-topic article/page/site : 80% rank factor
Profile link/Blog comment/non topic/non contextual link: 20% rank factor
New algo:
Contextual links in on-topic article/page/site : 90% rank factor
Profile link/Blog comment/non topic/non contextual link: 10% rank factor
Of course, adding in on page seo, quality of link source article/site, the algo's mood at the time, whether the algo had it's morning coffee, etc etc.

This has been true for a while, but I guess they actually placed even more importance on the context links appear in. The big question is how successful were they?
The consequence of this is your generic blog comment.. nearly worthless. The forum profile with just a signature link... nearly worthless. But these things were nearly worthless anyway. With the volume of these kinds of links people use to rank, could they effectively tweak the algorithm enough to hurt rankings? We'll see.

I would also suspect that this is going to have a big impact on people who depend on buying powerful links to manipulate serps. That blogroll link on the PR7 blog you bought might be worthless and you might drop down significantly. It's possible that a barely noticeable hit for mass link spammers is just a side effect of a cure to a different problem.

I have doubts on this, I mean it makes sense, but from my actual results and numbers I'm seeing that a PR6 sidebar link in the same neighborhood is still providing me with immense serp increases.
I'm going to go with my actual stats instead of he said she said.

in my opinion,i have seen some sites recently that have gained splendid rankings just because of a few contextual links.So,may be its happening.but still getting comment links works as well.Just mix in a couple of contextual links,within content is better,and you will be okay.
